Christ instituted the sacraments of the new law. There are seven: Baptism, Confirmation (or Chrismation), the Eucharist, Penance, the Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders and Matrimony. The seven sacraments touch all the stages and all the important moments of Christian life:1 they give birth and increase, healing and mission to the Christian's life of faith. There is thus a certain resemblance between the stages of natural life and the stages of the spiritual life. (CCC 1210)
We joyfully celebrate the Roman Catholic baptism of infants whose families are registered at St. Thomas the Apostle parish!
Because "holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit ,and the door which gives access to the other sacraments" (CCC 213), adequate preparation is required. We encourage parents to begin the preparation process as soon as they learn their new child is on its way! Preparation involves a Baptism class for first-time parents and the completion of various documents.
Baptisms are scheduled at St. Thomas only after all of the following are complete and turned in to the parish office. Copies can be emailed to Lisa Stewart at [email protected].
1. BAPTISM REGISTRATION FORM
2. GODPARENT FORM
At least one of the two godparents must be a confirmed, practicing Catholic over the age of 16. A second godparent who is Christian, but not Catholic, can serve as a Christian Witness.
3. COPY OF CHILD'S BIRTH CERTIFICATE
BAPTISM PREP CLASSES:
If you have not already attended a baptism prep class recently for a previous child, please contact
Carla Loucks, Director of Faith Formation, to schedule a class.
"Those who approach the sacrament of Penance obtain pardon from God's mercy for the offense committed against him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins and which by charity, by example, and by prayer labors for their conversion."
-CCC 422The holy Eucharist completes Christian initiation. Those who have been raised to the dignity of the royal priesthood by Baptism and configured more deeply to Christ by Confirmation participate with the whole community in the Lord's own sacrifice by means of the Eucharist. -CCC 322
