The function of the parish council is to assist the pastor in his leadership role of planning, organizing, initiating, promoting, coordinating and reviewing the evangelization, worship, religious education, stewardship and service activities within the parish.
The council will promote the best interests of the parish and make recommendations for its good management and proper development.
St. Thomas Parish Council typically meets the 2nd Tuesday of the month. Meetings are held at 3:30 pm in the Mission House dining room and are open to all interested parishioners. Other meetings may be scheduled as needed, or dates moved to accomodate availablity of pastor or members.
If you have an item you'd like to bring to the council, please contact the parish office or a member of the parish council to be added to the agenda for a particular meeting.
Our council consists of parish representatives who sit on various committees, such as Outreach, Religious Education, Liturgy, Building, and Social/Hospitality.
Unlike the parish council, which is representative of the entire parish, the finance council assists the pastor in a specific area of pastoral ministry: the administration of parish goods. The parish finance council is a consultative body which assists the pastor to act justly and prudently in the administration of the parish’s temporal goods.
Canon 537 - Each parish is to have a finance council which is regulated by universal laws as well as by norms issued by the diocesan bishop; in this council the Christian faithful, selected according to the same norms, aid the pastor in the administration of parish goods with due regard for the prescription of can. 532
Canon 532 states the pastor represents the parish in all juridic affairs in accord with the norm of law; he is to see to it that the goods of the parish are administered in accord with the norms of cann. 1281-1288.
